Roronoa Zoro is an exceptionally talented swordsman and these abilities make him stand apart from the rest of the competition in One Piece.
Roronoa Zoro is the second-strongest member of the Straw Hat Pirates. He joined the crew in the East Blue Saga, making him one of the original five members. From his childhood, Zoro dreamed of becoming the strongest swordsman in the One Piece world.
He went through many trials and tribulations, which made him strong both physically and mentally. Zoro’s strength has continued to improve after becoming a Straw Hat. He has developed many new techniques and learned several others that set him apart from the other swordsmen in One Piece. Roronoa Zoro’s best abilities have played a key role in his rise to the top.
6. High Resilience
Roronoa Zoro is known for his incredible physical strength. Early in his pirating career, he suffered many horrible injuries, but he managed to keep fighting due to his resilience. Zoro’s most impressive display came during the Thriller Bark arc, where he accepted Kuma’s offer to take all of Luffy’s pain.
Zoro was already in terrible condition from fighting Moria and Oars Jr., but he did not back down from the challenge. After Zoro put his hands inside Luffy’s pain bubble, his body was covered in blood and his top was in tatters. Yet, Zoro was still up and did not go down until Kuma left.
5. Different Sword Styles
Roronoa Zoro is a master swordsman, and he has proved time and time again that he is among the very best. While he prefers using a three-sword style, he has not limited himself to just one style. In many of his previous fights, Zoro has used one-sword style to defeat his foes.
He doesn’t use two-sword style often, but he can utilize it if the need arises. The nine-sword style is the most special of all of Zoro’s techniques. He used it recently in Wano to scar Kaido. Zoro has only relied on the nine-sword style a couple of times, but with the level of enemies increasing, it won’t be long before fans may see the form return.
4. Enma
Zoro has wielded many noteworthy swords; each one has been crafted by the finest swordsmiths. In the Thriller Bark arc, he received Shusui from Ryuma’s corpse. The sword is considered Wano’s treasure, so when the swordsman traveled to the country of the samurai, he was asked to return it. However, he couldn’t just let the sword go and keep two blades for himself.
Hiyori offered him Oden’s Enma in exchange for Shisui, and Zoro accepted the offer. From the moment he picked up the sword, Zoro knew that controlling it wouldn’t be easy. In his fight with King, Enma forcibly drained Zoro’s Haki, leaving him vulnerable. The hero knew that he had to tame the sword somehow if he wanted to win. Thankfully, Zoro managed to control Enma to a certain extent. The sword falls in the O-Wazamono grade, so Zoro can improve its grade if he manages to blacken it.
3. Kenbunshoku Haki
Kenbunshoku Haki allows an individual to sense incoming attacks and avoid them. It may seem like an underwhelming ability, but in the thick of battle, it can prove to be a potential lifesaver. Initially, Roronoa Zoro had no clue how to use Kenbunshoku Haki, but that changed after he requested Mihawk to train him.
Presently, Zoro can use this particular type of Haki to great effect. He can not only avoid attacks, but he can also sense another individual’s presence. However, he still requires a lot of training to improve it and take it to the same level as Luffy and Sanji.
2. Busoshoku Haki
Busoshoku Haki is one of two basic types of Haki that a person can learn with the help of training. Prior to the timeskip, Zoro could not use it and had to defeat enemies with sheer physical strength. He had to rely on his swords to defend himself from incoming attacks. However, after training with Mihawk, Zoro learned to use Busoshoku Haki.
Since the timeskip, Zoro imbues his swords with Busoshoku Haki to increase the overall power of his attacks. It also enables him to strike down opponents who are Devil Fruit users. Zoro’s Busoshoku Haki is quite formidable, and with time, it will continue to improve and allow him to achieve his lifelong dream of becoming the “Strongest Swordsman in the World.”
1. Advanced Haoshoku Haki
Luffy’s battle with Kaido made one thing clear: Haoshoku Haki is an incredible weapon to have in one’s arsenal. Among the Straw Hats, only Luffy was known to possess Haoshoku Haki, but in the Wano Country arc, it was revealed that Zoro had it as well. But, unlike his captain, Zoro cannot utilize Haoshoku Haki at will.
Throughout the arc, Zoro needed Enma’s help to draw it out. He used it for the first time while fighting Kaido and managed to give him a scar. Then he used it to fight and defeat King. Zoro seems to have better control over Enma, so he can use it to draw out his Haoshoku Haki until he learns to use it properly. Once he masters it, Zoro can pierce through the defenses of stronger opponents.
