Mum calls newborn daughter ‘little monkey’ because she was born with so much body hair

Britney Budhi was surprised when she welcomed her baby daughter last September – not only because the little one was three weeks early, but also due to the fact she was born covered in black hair.

Little Teyana’s striking appearance led to mum Britney giving her the nickname of ‘monkey.’

The hairdresser, from Sydney, said: ‘I knew it was possible for babies to be born with lots of body hair but I wasn’t expecting it.

‘When she came out, I even joked that she looked like a little monkey. Some people took that as a mean comment – but I thought it was super cute.

‘Even if she’d come out with two heads, she’d still have been the cutest baby in the world.’

The 29-year-old and her partner Tariq Ladhani, 36, welcomed their daughter by cesarean section on September 16 2021.

Britney was initially shocked to see her little girl with dark hair covering her body, but soon found out this was due to her low weight of just 2.2kg.

The condition is what’s known as lanugo – a fine hair covering babies while they are in the womb, which is sometimes still visible if they are born prematurely – or are particularly small at birth.

As a result, the hair has come off by itself over time.

The new mum also experienced postnatal depression and found it challenging with Teyana staying in NICU.

However, the parents eventually got to bring their daughter home and have loved spending every minute with her ever since.

Britney also took to TikTok to share her ‘little monkey’ with the world – but was surprised to hear people calling her offensive and cruel for the name.

The 29-year-old mum has since hit back at trolls saying she could never think anything bad of her daughter.

‘She was so cute – I meant it like she’s super cute,’ she adds.

‘I got a lot of hate for saying she looked like a little monkey but I had so much going on that social media was the last thing on my mind.

‘I was just making the situation a bit more light-hearted and if people took it the wrong way, that’s their problem.’
