Los Angeles Lakers superstar LeBron James and former NBA player JJ Redick are joining forces for a new podcast centered solely on basketball, as reported by Andrew Marchand of The Athletic.
Describing it as a relaxed conversation about the game, Redick emphasized, “It’s meant to be a very free-flowing conversation about the sport and about the game. If you look at it in a very simplistic way, it’s just about basketball.”
The podcast, titled “Mind the Game,” is set to kick off without any corporate partnerships initially.
Both James, widely regarded as one of the greatest players in NBA history, and Redick, a seasoned 15-year NBA veteran now part of ABC/ESPN’s NBA Finals crew, aim for an organic feel to the show. They want it to reflect their genuine passion for the sport.
As of now, the podcast has no established advertising sponsor.
James’ media company, Uninterrupted, and Redick’s ThreeFourTwo Productions are collaborating to produce the podcast.
James expressed his pride in their innovative approach to sports media, stating, “I’m really proud of what we’ve done to innovate in sports media. … When I do a project, the only thing I think about is whether me and my friends would watch it. That is definitely the case with ‘Mind the Game.’ Everything doesn’t need to be designed for internet culture and clicks.”
The inaugural episode is scheduled to premiere Tuesday and will be a weekly installment, with each episode running between 45 minutes to an hour.
The podcast will be available on YouTube and all major podcast platforms. Redick also hinted at the possibility of featuring other guests on some episodes.
