Our take

A two-team title race is taking shape.

Arsenal lead the title forecast with a 64% chance, while Manchester City are their main challenger at 33%. The rest of the league share a combined 4% chance of winning the title. Arsenal and Manchester City are above the league average in both Attack and Defence, giving the title forecast a clear strength context.

League Strength 97/100 indicates exceptional overall strength. Competitive Index 27/100 suggests a concentrated title race. 70 of 380 matches have been played (18%). This is still an early-season picture, with most fixtures yet to be played.

Possession vs Chances

Values use possession percent and observed xG per match; more possession is not necessarily better.Only clubs from the selected league season are shown. Dashed lines and quadrant labels are relative to averages of tracked clubs with both metrics. Chances means observed xG per match. Last up to 10 matches, all competitions, from Playing style profiles before each club’s next or latest league fixture. Averages use available observations, which may differ by metric. Window counts are not metric coverage. Descriptive, without opponent adjustment.

Key insights

Automatic descriptive highlights from current Premier League clubs. Each metric is ordered within its own type; types alternate to keep the selection varied. Up to six cards, normally one per club and at most two when the selection is small.

Result statistics require at least five known completed matches. They use the last ten recorded results across all competitions, or the last eight away results. Future, special and invalid results are excluded; missing results can interrupt real-world sequences, so streaks refer to recorded results. 10+ means at least ten within the window.

Bars run oldest to newest. Height shows goals scored, or goals conceded in conceding cards, on the same 0–6 scale. Six or more goals use maximum height; zero retains a small marker. Colour shows the result: teal = win, amber = draw, red = loss. In event and streak cards, solid bars mark the event and faded bars mark its absence. Hover for the date, full score and event. xG and points cards compare their two inputs, not a fabricated history.

xG Difference uses observed Playing style averages; window size is not xG coverage and the two metrics can have different denominators. Points minus xPts uses the same covered current-league matches and stored forecasts as Club strength, including labelled historical reconstructions.

    How this team is selected

Match ratings from this competition and matchweek, with at least 60 minutes played. Eligibility uses the recorded starting formation of that specific match, never the player profile position. Ratings retain their original 0–10 scale; they are not L90 Strength.

Both 4–3–3 and 4–2–3–1 have GK, LB, two CBs, RB, LW, ST and RW. The 4–3–3 adds three central midfielders; 4–2–3–1 uses two holding midfielders and one attacking midfielder. In 4–3–3, DM or CM can fill central midfield; AM performances are reserved for the attacking midfield slot in 4–2–3–1. In 4–2–3–1, DM or CM can fill holding midfield, while the AM slot requires an actual AM performance.

Wing-backs can fill the same-side full-back slot; wide midfielders the same-side wing. The recorded starting role is shown in brackets when it differs from the XI slot. Central defenders cannot fill full-back slots, and central strikers cannot fill wing slots.

Each formation independently fills as many eligible slots as possible, then maximizes the total raw rating. Equal XI totals use total minutes, then player and match IDs. Formations are ranked by filled slots, then total raw rating; equal formation scores prefer 4–3–3. Each player appears once per XI. Double gameweeks retain separate match roles and ratings for the assignment.

Missing or unsupported starting grids are excluded, including substitutes without a recorded role. In-match role changes are not inferred from starting lineups. The latest numbered matchweek with a recorded result is shown first. Unfinished rounds are provisional; postponed games stay in their original matchweek. Only completed matches with recorded scores and past kickoff times are considered; special-status games are excluded.

The bench is selected after the XI: one GK, two DEF, two MID and two ATT. Every appearance of a selected starter is excluded. DEF includes full-backs, wing-backs and centre backs; MID includes DM, CM and AM; ATT includes wide midfielders, wingers and strikers. The same match eligibility and raw-rating assignment apply, with each player selected once. Missing groups stay unfilled. Bench ratings do not affect formation rankings.
